FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

River-Bound Brunch Offers Scenic Respite to Local Families and Seniors

SANFORD, FL – May 9, 2005 – As spring sails by and summer rapidly approaches, many Central Florida residents ponder how best to spend their valuable free time. Although we do live in the tourism capital of the world, sweltering temperatures and long lines cause many local families and seniors to look for alternative recreational options.

Sanford-based Rivership Romance has responded to a flood of requests by creating a unique spring and summer Sunday brunch cruise that saunters down the historic St. Johns River .

Rivership Captain Robert Hopkins explains, “Most of our passengers are families and seniors who are searching for a way to spend time together in a unique setting…people just want to do something different.”

The Sunday brunch cruises begin on May 15 and will sail every Sunday throughout the spring and summer seasons from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, presentations about the river’s historical importance and traditional southern favorites such as seafood stuffed grouper, jambalaya, corn soufflé, red bean cassolet, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs with herbs, glazed applewood bacon, strawberry crepes and more. Cruise fare including the all you can eat brunch is $36.75. Reservations are required.

“Our focus is on providing families and seniors with a historic and fascinating venue where they can enjoy our beautiful weather and scenery alongside great company and food,” said Hopkins .

Seminole County and the St. John's River provide a unique venue for recreation. The unhurried pace, particularly in Sanford 's peaceful, historic and beautiful riverfront downtown area, provides an opportunity to travel back in time. Senior citizens in particular enjoy this chance to reminisce about the former riverboat glory days of the St. John's River and Lake Monroe .

Nancy Roth, with the Seminole County and Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs, is a local expert that helps seniors identify appropriate ways to engage themselves with their community and each other.

Roth says, “Recreation plays a significant role in the lives of seniors.  After years of family rearing and career building , senior citizens now have time to renew relationships with local friends, enjoy the outdoors and leisure pursuits they never previously had enough time for.”

Embarking on a water journey with Rivership Romance is an opportunity for locals of all ages to experience the unique natural scenery of Florida on the  St. John's River while dining in the ambiance of the historic riverboat era in luxury. Alligators, egrets, turtles and other wildlife can be viewed along beautiful moss hung riverbank areas.

Roth adds, “Just being outside and experiencing nature in its pure form can be very therapeutic. ”

The Rivership Romance provides exactly that opportunity in an uncommon fashion.
